Other InfoCadet Serjeant Geoffrey Robert Wallace, from the Uppingham School Contingent, Junior Division, Officers Training Corps was commissioned in to the 7th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment on the 3rd December 1914 as a Second Lieutenant. On 31st October 1916, Lieut. G. R. Wallace, hitherto Adjutant of the 1/7th Battalion took over command of "A" Company, and Lieut. D. Wingate became Acting-Adjutant. He was awarded the Military Cross. His citation read: 2nd Lt. (temp. Lt.) Geoffrey Robert Wallace, Wore. R. "For conspicuous gallantry in action. He commanded a fighting patrol, with which he successfully raided an enemy trench, killing several of the enemy, and then withdrawing with slight casualties." He was awarded bar to his Military Cross (L.G. 30 May 1917). His citation read: 2nd Lt. (acting. Capt.) Geoffrey Robert Wallace, M.C:, Wore. R. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He led his company in a most gallant manner and succeeded in reaching his final objective. Later, he took over the whole battalion line and reorganised the defence of the captured position. (M.C. gazetted January 26, 1917). Captain Wallace was killed in action on the 27th August 1917, Regimental history records the incedent: "On the right flank of the Battalion, Captain G. E. Wallace led "A" Company forward most gallantly. The attack had passed beyond the defences of Vancouver Farm and was nearing a concrete fort beyond it when two German snipers rose from a shell-hole close at hand. They shot Captain Wallace (mortally wounded and died within 2 hours) and a corporal who rushed to his assistance. Sergeant Marchant, endeavouring to assist his officer, was wounded, but at the same moment Sergeant Cooper succeeded in shooting both the Germans." Died age 21, Son of L. A. and M. K. Wallace, of 35 Lennox Gardens, Sloane Square, London. Remembered at The Tyne Cot Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium - Panel 75 to 77.
