Other InfoSon of Son of Horace and Laura Evangeline Budden, of 52, Hillcrest Road, Acton, London. Educated at Bournemouth Grammar School and Sandhurst Military Academy. 2nd Lieutenant Ronald Anderson Budden was killed in action about 4 am on the 31 July 1917 (age 19). He is remembered at Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Panel 34. Also at Royal Memorial Chapel, RMA Sandhurst. He was shot through the head by a German sniper and died instantly. At the time he was leading a platoon from shell-hole to shell-hole attacking and silencing a enemy machine guns. Whilst in point blank range he raised himself to the lip of the crater to throw a bomb, and was shot at that instant. The men with him immediately rushed the gun and bayoneted the crew, including the man who shot 2 Lt. Budden. The machine gun position was captured. Details of his death was sent to his father by Captain Urwick.
